I have a 1.67ghz powerbook with the 128mb video card in it. I just hooked up a 20' WS Dell 2005FPW to it. I had it on 1600x1000 and found the text to be of adequate size. Pushing selector buttons shows only #2 as having any kind of signal, but it's in a seemingly endless self-test mode. #3 & #4 say no signal. Can't remember #1 (am using my old monitor, now) but I think the screen was black, without the bouncing color chart that shows in the other three. I took care to make proper connections. I also forgot to check whether the Mac sees the Dell, at all, but it must, since the boot screens showed ok.

My monitor which I have had for about half a year has developed the following problem: when I restart the computer or awake it from sleep, any devices connected to the machines USB hub are no longer recognized (specifically, my iPod). Plugging and unplugging the device does not do anything. The only thing that can get my computer to recognize the device again is to unplug and plug back in the main USB cable from the monitor to the computer (the one that carries the signal and power to and from the USB hub on the monitory). I checked Dells site to see if they had an Drivers for OS 10.4.2 thinking that must be the problem, but they only have drivers for Windows. Anyone experiencing the same thing or have any ideas for a solution? You can force the normal drivers to install. There is no *real* driver per se, its just some registry settings and a icm color profile that are used and both are independent of being 32bit ot 64bit.
